Certificate of Higher Education Skills for the Workplace Health and Social Care (Weekends / Week days)
Course Title
- This program will equip students for various job opportunities in the public and private health and social care environment with a focus on adult and child care. For instance, residential or nursing homes, domiciliary care, clinical health settings and day-care centres. Students will be able to take up roles such as Care Assistant, Family Support Worker, Community Worker and Teaching Assistant. After successful completion of this programme, students are welcome to continue studying with the university and do the BSc (Hons) Health & Social Care programme.
Progression route: On successful completion, students have an option to study B Sc Hons Health and Social Care degree with a further two years study at the same university.

Study Modules:
- +Academic and Employability Skills
–Upon the successful completion of the Academic & Employability Skills module, the student should be able to: analyse published literature relating to a specific topic or subject area and produce a fully referenced, appropriately structured academic report; reflect on their learning using recognised models of reflection, and research and present their findings in a variety of formats on a range of employability skills and collect and analyse feedback on their delivery.
- +Effective Team Working and Communication
–Upon the successful completion of the Effective Team Working & Communication module, the student should be able to: apply the main theories relating to group dynamics, team working and communication to their own workplace examples; and prepare and deliver a short presentation within a team-working context.
- +Digital Skills and Research Methods
–Upon the successful completion of the Digital Skills & Research Methods module, the student should be able to: evaluate the appropriate use of contemporary technologies to improve workplace efficiency and employability; identify and effectively evaluate a range of information sources, and show competence in workplace data handling.
- +Psychology for Health and Social Care
–Upon the successful completion of the Psychology for Health and Social Care module, the student should be able to demonstrate the ability to: understand theories of lifespan development; analyse how psychological theories are applied to health and social care practice, and examine social and biological determinants of human behaviour displayed in health and social care contexts.
- +Problem Solving and Decision Making
–Upon the successful completion of the Problem Solving & Decision Making module, the student should be able to: describe a problem, its nature, scope and impact; gather and interpret information to solve a problem; evaluate options to make a decision; and plan, monitor and review the implementation and communication of decisions.
- +Professional Career Development
–Upon the successful completion of the Professional Career Development module, the student should be able to: understand the skills and knowledge needed for working effectively; demonstrate readiness for employability and personal advancement through an understanding of personal strengths and areas for further development; and establish employment goals and develop a personal action plan.
What to expect if you are picking this course:
There are a variety of assessments such as presentations, projects, reports and blogs. There are no examinations.
This programme is only available to Home applicants.
